Ayatul Kursi is also renowned as the verse of the throne. It is part of Surah Al Baqarah, and the verse is 255, known for its great attributes of Allah. This verse reflects a distinctive attribute that belongs to Allah. It shows that Allah is superior to all, ever-living, and the sustainer of all. Ayat emphasizes his exceptional features, such as unmatched vigilance that neither slumber nor sleep can overtake him. Ayatul Kursi shows the greatness and incomprehensibility of Allah’s knowledge. The extent of his power is infinite, and he stretches his power to all creation.
Allah holds absolute knowledge and power for certain reasons mentioned in Ayatul Kursi.
- Oneness of Allah:
- Allah is the Sustainer and Ever-living:
- Allah is Worthy of Worship:
- Independent of Sleep and Drowsiness:
- Possession of everything in the Universe:
- No one has the power to latch onto the knowledge of Allah:
- Creator and protector of Earth and Heaven:
Oneness of Allah:
This verse establishes the singularity and exclusiveness of Allah. The start of this verse begins with this staunch property of Allah. There is no God in the whole universe but Allah. He is alone in his character as deity and divinity. He considers himself most powerful for this singularity.
He is capable of being worshipped. The Deep Meaning of Ayatul Kursi begins with affirming this absolute Oneness, known as Tawhid, a comprehensive concept that includes saying the Shahada, declaration of true faith, and submitting all worship to Allah through prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and supplications.
Shahadah is a verbal claim that there is no God but Allah. Allah teaches all Muslims through His Prophets that He is absolute in His Oneness and power. Tawhid contradicts Shirk, which is forbidden in Islam for associating other partners with Allah. Allah does not allow Muslims to consider others as ‘Ilah’.
Allah is the Sustainer and Ever-living:
Allah is the sustainer and ever-living. This symbolizes his power that there is only one God who is responsible for the functioning of the universe. He is self-sufficient and enough to control everything. He is independent of any assistance in the sovereign reign of Allah. There is no death for Allah. He has been alive ever since, irrespective of the period. He will stay alive forever. Death will be fortune for everyone in this universe but Allah. Al-Hayy and Al-Qayyum describe the everlasting existence of Allah without any beginning or ending. This worthy attribute belongs only to his status. No one can share this position.
Allah is Worthy of Worship:
Allah is worthy of worship, which means that he is the only one deserving of worship and glorification. Allah is a personage to get adoration and devotion. His creation is created with the innate nature of inclination and submission. Hence, Allah is powerful enough to be praised and inclined by His creation. Allah has sent several commandments for his creation to obey, and people are supposed to live their lives by his commandments. The Deep Meaning of Ayatul Kursi is beautifully reflected in its description of Allah’s majesty and authority—proving He alone is worthy of all worship and devotion. Ayatul Kursi is descriptive in manifesting the absolute capability of Allah to be worshipped and exalted.
Independent of Sleep and Drowsiness:
Allah has manifested his unique attribute in Ayatul Kursi. That is ‘Neither drowsiness overtakes him nor sleep’. This feature only belongs to Allah. Because creation is dependent on taking rest and falling asleep to regain their energy, they can perform activities actively. But Allah is so powerful that he can stay upright irrespective of sleep and rest. Allah is not subject to these manly states like rest and weakness.
Possession of everything in the Universe:
Allah is the creator, and he has mastery. He is lord of all creation and old divine sovereignty. All the functioning of the universe is going very smoothly and evenly because there is no co-owner or partner of Allah for authority and power. This feature of Allah encourages Muslims to trust in the ownership of Allah and submit their loyalty to divine sovereignty.
Entrust every affair to Allah because Allah is the best planner and plans best for his creation. If there were another God partner in divinity, then they must contradict on every plan and result in chaos of the system. Hence, the functioning of the universe such as planets revolving in their orbits, sunrise, sunset, moons causing tidal rise in oceans, the growth of trees, and the production of new species is phenomenal.
No one has the power to latch onto the knowledge of Allah:
Allah has absolute and infinite knowledge. The knowledge of man is limited, incomplete, and deficient. According to documented evidence of the Quran and other scriptures, Allah possesses infinite knowledge encompassing everything of the past, present, and future. He does not gain knowledge from any source as man does seek knowledge from different sources. He gains knowledge from learning, observing, and seeking guidance. Knowledge of Allah covers all aspects of the past as it is witnessed in the Holy Quran in the form of stories of the Prophet and their nations. Their origin, birth, life events, preaching, dealing with their nation, the wisdom of prophets, and their insights.
Creator and protector of Earth and Heaven:
Allah is a single, supreme, and divine entity in the universe. Allah is the creator of all creations, including humans, animals, moons, sun, planets, stars, celestial bodies, and all species on earth. He claims to protect all his creations because he is the ultimate protector of all creations.
